A technical group nominated by the WITS PSA has made great progress on the design of WITS-IOT. At the WITS Expo last year we explained the need for WITS-IOT and how we were building it on top of established IOT technologies such as MQTT. We also demonstrated a prototype built with Raspberry Pi and Node-Red.

Now more work has been done on the protocol design, adding more of the functionality built into WITS-DNP3. Further developments since the Expo include a new dynamic approach to the handling of configuration, which we hope will enable new facilities to be added without requiring new protocol versions.

Our current focus is to bring our draft document into a position where it can be released within the WITS PSA membership for comments. We can then invite and form a new set of groups of PSA members with the aim of finalising the remaining documentation and test work.
