Protocol version

Devices can achieve Verified and Self-Certified status at any WITS protocol version if they fulfil the acceptance criteria as described in the WITS Compliance Testing Manual. The WITS device catalogue on the WITS website will list the highest protocol version level that every device has achieved for each status.

Process for claiming certification

6-steps-certification There are six steps in the process:

Certification levels

Vendors may choose one of two levels of certification for their products:

Self-Certified – Tests are conducted by the vendor themselves using their own test equipment. Tests do not involve any third party.

Verified – Tests are carried out against existing WITS Verified devices in conjunction with the vendors of those WITS Verified devices. This ensures a greater level of confidence that the equipment complies with the protocol and delivers […]

PSA Corporate Membership fees

Corporate membership fee levels have been set so as to cover the estimated costs of the PSA Committee, and to reflect the significant contributions made by the founder organisations during the Protocol Standards project.

Vendor registration fee: £ 1,000
Vendor membership fee £ 500 p.a.
User registration fee £ 200
User membership fee £ 300 p.a.

How to join the PSA

Download a Corporate Membership form by clicking on the “Join now” tab at the top of the page.
Complete and sign it
Send it to the WITS PSA Secretary at the address on the “Contact us” page with your cheque
OR scan and email it to enquiries@witsprotocol.org if you prefer to pay by bank transfer (bank details are on the form).

The applicant will then be registered as a Member on the website.

Ownership and maintenance of the Standard

The WITS Protocol Standards Association (PSA) provides for the long term maintenance and management of the WITS-DNP3 Protocol Standard. Members are drawn from the water industry – both users (mainly water companies) and vendors/manufacturers of telemetry equipment. The PSA has its own independent elected committee drawn from members of both the vendor and user communities.

Recognition and Supplier Adoption of the Standard

Since the formation of the PSA, work has been carried out to develop field devices that conform to the Standard. This has been driven by both the manufacturers and the utilities.

The WITS Protocol Standards Association

Once the Standard was produced, attention turned to its sustainability. To ensure this the WITS Protocol Standards Association (PSA) was established and currently provides for the maintenance and management of the WITS-DNP3 protocol.
