Report of the work of the Association over the past 2 years – Ver 3 21/11/2013

Inception

Following the period of development of the Protocol, the Protocol Standards Association was formed on 27th September 2011 at Interim Committee Meeting #8. The first Committee meeting of the new PSA was held on 11th December 2011. The Committee then consisted of:

WITS Testing – the joy of plugfests

During 2007, the detail design of the WITS protocol was undertaken by a joint development team including engineers from all contributing founder vendors. This team has seen the WITS protocol move successfully from requirements through to a working protocol implemented, tested and certified on all the vendors equipment by the end of 2010. This article describes a key, and very successful, feature of the WITS development process – the WITS plugfests.

Aug 2013 – South West Water specifies WITS

South West Water

SWW have included the requirement for the WITS interface to be delivered as part of the new Master Station system being delivered by CSE Servelec. 13-June-2013 New functionality added to the WITS-DNP3 protocol

A Field Device that is periodically logging a counter value is required to reset the counter to zero after the current value has been logged at the end of the period. Any other event log for the counter point does not affect the counter value.

13-June-2013 2 WITS streams created

In order to accommodate new and legacy  versions of DNP3 Secure Authentication, the Committee has decided that henceforth there will be 2 WITS streams:

  • Ver 1.3 (which includes SAV2 security)
  • Ver 2.1 (which includes SAV5 security) 

New TBs will be incorporated into both versions. The two release packs are now available:

  • Release Pack 5-SAv2 (documents for WITS-DNP3 version 1.3)
  • Release Pack 5-SAv5 (documents for WITS-DNP3 version 2.1)
